Domain 1:
In this domain it is all about the planning and preparation for a classroom and its teacher. It includes the certain content that the teacher needs to have ready, having a coherent structure, and instruction. The educator needs to make sure that the students are able to understand the lesson and classroom techniques. The planning of the lesson needs to be done with care by the teacher, no winging it for their benefit. Also, the teacher needs to know their content, so that the student has confidence in the teacher, and so that the content is delivered well without misconceptions. Within the lesson, their is a necessity for assessment so that the teacher can utilize both formative and summative. A well planned lesson would include formative assessment throughout, so that the teacher can adapt their future lesson plans. Overall, within the first domain it displays that educators need to have much preparation to plan for their lesson and classroom to have clarity within the classroom for the student and teacher. Domain 2: In the second domain it is all about the environment within the classroom and how the educator should create a healthy, positive environment. First, there should be an environment where there is respect between the teacher and the student, and it should be reached in a healthy way. The teacher should not expect respect right out of the gate, but it has to be shown to the students that you are a fair and just teacher that respects them. Respect is something in the classroom that has to be established and earned. Also, the teacher should create an environment where they have justified expectations of the students, so that the student can establish pride in their work. Next, the teacher should be able to manage classroom procedures. The educator needs to be able to handle the classroom and plan accordingly to benefit the classroom procedures. The teacher should accept criticism from other staff members and also, have their transitions within the lesson clear and concise. Along with this, the teacher should be able to manage their own classroom behavior well. The teacher should hold strong to their high expectations and make sure they monitor the behavior within the classroom. A classroom full of misbehavior does not benefit the other students or them. The educator needs to make sure they respond to bad behaviors so that the classroom does not become chaotic. Lastly, this domain discusses how to set up the physical space in your classroom. The space should best suit the needs of the children and be changed often. Domain 3: In the third domain it is all about how to instruct your students and the different techniques that can be used. It has been seen that when teachers utilize many different types of teaching styles it benefits the students than using one single technique. First off, teachers should make sure that within the class time they are communicating with students. It is important to make sure that when you are giving instructions they are clear and the students can accurately complete them. Also, your communication within the lesson should be clear enough for them to understand. Secondly, as the teacher your questions should be clear and inciteful enough for the student to think deeply about. These questions should also be on the level of the student, but some challenging questions should be included. There should be discussion within the class and letting the students discuss together to review and challenge each other mentally. During instruction there should also be times where you are keeping the students engaged in the lesson. You should be mixing up the different types of techniques you should include group discussion and keep the students engaged by the types of questions you ask. Also, with instruction you should always be utilizing the different types of assessments to challenge their cognitive learning and explanations given. Domain 4: In the fourth domain of the danielson framework it discusses the professional responsibilities of the educator within the classroom and to others. First, an educator should make sure they are reflecting on their lesson and how it affected the students. If the student was confused or didn't seem to learn the information, the lesson plan needs to be adjusted. Teachers should always track how students are responding to their lessons and what they could do for each student. Also, the teacher should keep records along with the student to help them in the future. When the teacher has accurate records they can inform the parents and students of important information to benefit them. There are also non-instructional records kept within the records so that the teacher has parent information or you have the permission slip for the student to go on the field trip. Maintaining these records will help the teacher keep in touch with parents and help them to be up to date on their child's progress. The educator should also be making themself available to the community by going to sporting events. This gives them the sense of availability to the parents of the students and helps grow their professionalism. They are taking care of their professional responsibilities by completing all of these elements. Danielson, C. (n.d.). The Framework for Teaching Evaluation Instrument [PDF].
